With the demonic onset of Diablo 4 almost upon us, it doesn't take an apocalyptic prophet of the end times to predict the awesome action RPG is going to be massive. Understandably, fans are concerned about whether servers will be up to the inevitable strain come launch day, a fear which has been allayed previously. Nevertheless, Blizzard wants you to know it has the situation sorted.
Speaking to GamesRadar+, Diablo 4 general manager Rod Fergusson feels like the preparations which have been made will be adequate, stating that: "We've done the work we could do to make launch day as smooth as possible. And we feel good about where we are."
Ferguson compared the process of launching a game like Diablo 4 to the opening of an amusement park, noting that no matter how big it is, if a million people show up at once, not everyone will get in at once. Veterans of Diablo 3's launch will have likely learned their lesson from the infamous Error 37 and will wait until the dust settles.
While it sounds like the servers won't buckle under the strain, how long are you expecting launch day queues for Diablo 4 to last? Make alternate plans in the comments section below.

heard that before 😅
Don’t make a girl a promise you can’t keep.
Just downloaded it. My first game downloaded on our new AT&T gigabyte fiber internet. 75GB in 13 mins. Can’t wait to play it. It’s my game of the generation, so i am more than excited. Hardwired gigabyte is a game changer. So happy it finally came to my neighborhood and in time for Diablo 4.
@Green-Bandit you lucky barsteward you 🤣
@Green-Bandit I have gigabyte internet google fiber love it
I can survive with 350Mbit/s. I am ready for D4 launch. Some snacks are ready, energy boosts laying in fridge, I am ready for "Spin to Win" all weekend long. Best times ahead, just grind, grind again and serve Mother
They say the same about wow every expansion and its always the same.
Thing is they won't get called out on it. But I'm 100 per cent sure they'll have server issues. It's blizzard . Hell will freeze over first if they didnt..
Doesn't matter how good your Internet is either if their servers are held together with tape and string with dead hamsters still in the wheels
Wow, a promise from Blizzard, doesn't mean much these days, but here's hoping.
@Northern_munkey HAHA i know right. I seen an advertisement for it in my mail and i was like i don’t fiber here. Then it said i did and that the install might take a while. Which it did, took around 2.5 hours but he said it could take up to 4. But wow is it worth it. I love it. Just wish i knew why the PS upload speed isn’t as fast as on Xbox. Need to keep doing speed test and see what happens with it.
@C25CLOUD man it’s the best. No way i could go back to a slower speed. I mean i was at 400mbps and often times that would come in at 440mbps when i would download games. Sometimes it would dip to 320mbps. But this is just so quick. Mine in my area is AT&T.
@Green-Bandit I had 500 before it always stable downloading games they dl fast now with gig it done so quick lol
@Green-Bandit your up will be more than enough..no laggy rubbish for you..i've got fibre and its pretty good tbh but i'm officially jealous of you buddy.
@C25CLOUD i agree it’s insane good and AT&T has the same upload and down speed speeds which i like. I’ve only had it for 2 weeks. Diablo 4 is the first large game I downloaded on Series X and it was insane fast. Haven’t bought anything on PS5 yet, but i will. 😊
@Northern_munkey it’s all good friend. I was happy to see it come into my area. The Wife and i bought a new house in a smaller town than we were in since we work finance from home. No need to drive into the city no more which means no reason to live there thank god. But Fiber just got to this area and i have a media room upstairs so i wanted faster internet for upstairs. Her office is behind the game room and the 400mbps wasn’t great coverage in there. AT&T dropped the line in the media room so i could hardwire the Series X and PS5 and the slowest room in the house got 500mbps so we did a downstairs extender with them and it’s gigabit in the whole house including the backyard and garage. Only thing is strange is the PS5 doesn’t seem to take all the upload and the Xbox does. So that’s why i wondered if it was a server side thing or my connection. It’s way more than enough tho. So when i get my tail beat on SF6 it’s my fault. No way to scream lag, HAHA 😆
Uh-huh, that'll be a first. Does no one remember the recent Overwatch 2 launch? Granted it was free to play, but D2R was a mess as well. I'll wait a month tbh.
@Green-Bandit What's your ping, though? That's what actually matters for online gaming. The bandwidth isn't important (well, without crazy extremes like still having a 56k connection 😉)
Games typically use 100MB or less an hour, so you'd need a quarter of a Mbit connection. Fighting games are at the lower end because there's only two sets of inputs to send back and forth. A whole match is a few dozen kilobytes in SFIV. It's obviously amazing to be able to download a game very quickly, though; to just have the sudden urge to play something and be able to be in the game minutes later. But yeah, check the ping and that's the measure of the lag you'll get. It should be under 10 ideally. I get 12 on my phone when I'm on a different floor from the router.
@Matroska Yeah Ping is the main standout for online gaming for sure. I test it on the individual games cause their servers vary. There was a time on Gears 5 i would have 2-4 ping and on other severs 12-20. So i tend to test it on games that allow me to see my active ping. But for sure i have more than enough upload and download speed. I have been 100% digital purchasing my games since mid 360 and PS3. So i am more than happy that i was able to download Diablo 4 in 13 mins. That was fun. I hope fiber reaches more and more gamers around the world.
I rather have the option to play offline if I want to but it's Activision Blizzard.
@Green-Bandit
me sulking in the corner with my 25mbps internet speed
@OrtadragoonX hey if it get’s the job done that’s all that counts. But if that’s all I had i would probably buy physical games. Save some time.
